    Hello Everyone!

I just finished this lovely book, and look forward to talking about it. What a fun idea to have a study guide and forum!

    Hello Aniko! And all!

We’re curious to know if this was your first Madeleine L’Engle book. If you know her other work, is it what you expected?

Oh no! 🙂 I read A Wrinkle in Time at the end of seventh grade. It was on the summer reading list and I wanted a head start. Would that all summer reading were so enchanting! That stormy beginning and the cozy Wallace household grabbed me. Recently, I reread it and read the second in the series, which I also enjoyed. (As an adult, for some reason I enjoyed the second more than the first. As a child, I tried reading the second, and it didn’t hold my interest as the first had. It’s interesting how at different times in life we receive books differently.) The Joys of Love was my third L’Engle read.

I’m not sure what I expected, but I can say that this book is quite different from the Time books. Whereas the Time books are super-atmospheric and engaging with their fantastical elements, this one is calmer and subdued, despite the theme of young love’s growing pains. I could see it was an early book from the writing, but I thought it was quite lovely, and now I want to read some of the non-Time fiction.

It was just pointed out that Sarah Courtmont appears in other Madeleine L’Engle books. Can you name one?
